Community organic gardening in the heart of Bath

Bath Organic Group is a volunteer-led community garden offering a welcoming space to learn, share skills and grow seasonal food. We follow Soil Association organic principles, nurture wildlife-friendly habitats and welcome all backgrounds and abilities. Whether you are new to gardening or an experienced grower, you can join our friendly group, share the garden and produce, get friendly advice and plenty of fresh air at our community garden near the centre of Bath. And did we mention tea and cakes?

About us …

Growing together, naturally in Bath

Bath Organic Group’s garden opened in 1990 as a demonstration garden for organic methods. The garden, which is run by volunteers, is open on Saturdays and Tuesdays between 10 am and 1 pm. Visitors are welcome to visit and look around, have a cup of tea and a chat. Volunteers, both beginners and  experienced gardeners, help maintain this half-acre of beautiful, productive and (reasonably!) well-maintained fruit and vegetable garden.

Events

A close-up photographic view of a weathered wooden planter box brimming with heirloom tomatoes in various stages of ripeness, from pale green to deep red, their skins slightly glossy with tiny drops of water. The planter rests on a mulched garden path bordered by low, flowering herbs such as marigolds and calendula. Overcast daylight provides soft, diffused lighting that gently wraps around the fruit, minimizing harsh shadows and emphasizing natural colors. Shot from a slightly elevated angle with a shallow depth of field, the front cluster of tomatoes is in crisp focus while the background dissolves into a soft, earthy blur. The mood is fresh, organic, and nurturing, with a professional, documentary-style realism ideal for an organic gardening charity site.

Workdays

Join our volunteer garden workday in Bath, every Tuesday and Saturday morning. We share in learning organic techniques while helping maintain our thriving community site.

An inviting composting area in a community organic garden, featuring three sturdy wooden compost bays filled with layered garden waste, straw, and partially decomposed organic matter showing rich, crumbly texture. A clearly labeled, hand-painted wooden sign reading “Compost Corner” hangs on the front of the central bay. Surrounding the bays are native shrubs, nettle patches, and a small pile of neatly stacked straw bales. Soft morning sunlight filters through light cloud cover, creating a gentle, diffused glow and subtle shadows. Captured from an eye-level perspective with balanced composition, the image has sharp detail across the frame. The atmosphere is educational, practical, and welcoming, rendered in clean photographic realism that underscores sustainable gardening practices and environmental stewardship, with no people visible.

Growing Green – May 16th

Join us on Saturday May 16th in the afternooon for our annual celebration of Spring. Visit the garden at its best, and meet some of our colleagues who run other gardening groups across Bath. Enjoy cream teas and wander around the garden and orchard.
